The Art of Accompaniment
Become a Bassist: If you have some experience as a guitarist, e-bass, or double bass player (jazz, classical, etc.), you can get an introduction to the art of accompaniment in a jazz combo with me. Offered for electric bass or double bass. You will learn to accompany simple jazz standards using the one-and-three technique. Over the course of the week, we will try out several jazz standards, and during the last two workshop days, I will also introduce you to walking bass playing.
Become a Drummer: If you have some experience on any musical instrument (jazz, classical, etc.), you can get an introduction to the art of accompaniment in a jazz combo. Available: small drum set consisting of a snare drum, hi-hat, and ride cymbal. You will begin with brushwork on the snare. After a brief introduction, you’ll already be able to accompany medium-tempo jazz standards in a combo. Over the course of the workshop, we’ll expand the drum set and start playing with sticks in addition to brushes.
